Our intrepid Tongariro travellers enjoyed some beautiful blue sky weather on their trip last week.
Day one saw them climbing the rocky alpine valleys and ridges of Mt Ruapehu, enjoying the picturesque views of other great maunga, to tramping and enjoying making snow angels. Students discovered that the journey is where the learning happens, and the destination is where the fun happens.
The following day they tackled the Tongariro River where they enjoyed the gently flowing river and were challenged by the rapids that came next. The day was capped off with an exhilarating river jump!
Their final challenge was an overnight expedition. Students set out on their tramp, stopping off to go caving on the way before spending the night under the stars in freezing conditions (-4 degrees).
A huge thank you to Hillary Outdoors for running such a fantastic camp; TTCF Waitakere for helping to fund this experience, and finally to Mrs Ta’ala and Mr Beeston for organising and taking our students on this epic adventure.
